FEAST.

Stanly and Winnie (Capsule) graciously treated me to a crazy delicious Vietnamese dinner at Saigon Star. I fought for the bill quite unsuccessfully…

Thanks for the dinner and the company, guys.

SLURP.

When I first moved into the Lower East Side, Sam was the first person to welcome me to the neighborhood. I had stepped off the F train from Queens and the welcome sight of a little Chinese bakery called “Sunshine Cafe” beckoned me in. Over the past few months I’ve gotten to know Sam, the bakery owner, in our short 5 to 10 minute conversations every morning as I pick up a small coffee and a pork bun. He had opened up shop in the neighborhood well before the area had undergone its metamorphosis into its current state, and I can safely say that he represents the creative, diligent and ethnically diverse LES neighborhood through and through. (By the way – if you had come to our NYC sample sale on that cold December morning and warmed yourself up to a hot cup of coffee, that came courtesy of Sam). In time I realized that he was friends with so many of the creative types in the area that I work with – most notably Jenn and Osa from Complete Technique. Jenn told me that it was through her time working at Sunshine Cafe that she was able to meet JeffStaple, Osa and so many others. To her and many others, Sam’s establishment is much more than a place to get a quick breakfast.

That’s why when he decided to start building a new noodle restaurant called Slurp around the corner, we were all very excited for his new venture. I chatted with him throughout the winter and he told me about all the various roadblocks that he was encountering – building permits, construction issues, etc. He finally opened shop two weeks ago and graciously invited a small group of family and friends to see the new restaurant and dine with him tonight.

Congratulations, Sam. Here’s to many years of success.

LUNCHTIME.

It was way too nice out today to eat lunch indoors.

How to repair a leaky cup.

Jah Jah (Ninjasonik) was out enjoying the weather.

Check this crazy tattoo he just got on his neck.
