A belt was always high on our list of products to develop. We had a few requirements: firstly, we wanted them be a perfect complement to our jeans, meaning that they should be rugged and durably constructed. We also wanted them to age beautifully over time as our denim does. We turned to our good friends at Tanner Goods to collaborate on this project, and were able to create the belt you see above. It’s a heavyweight 13oz Natural Tan belt that will take on increasingly darker shades of color with time and wear. The belt – with its durable hand stitching, sciving and waxed edges – was fully constructed in Tanner’s workshop in Portland, Oregon.
The buckle itself has an interesting story. While frequenting an Army-Navy store near our NY office, we came across a small lot of antique military belt buckles that were in various states of decay. We chose the best ones and sent them out to Tanner to get cleaned up.
You’ll notice in the photos that some of the buckles still show signs of light rusting – this doesn’t affect their durability or strength in any way. The same buckle style is on each belt in this batch, but due to the unique way each one has aged, no two buckles are the same.
Due to the limited availability of the buckles, only 24 belts were produced. They can be purchased exclusively from our online store (shop.3sixteen.com) – once they are sold out, they will not be restocked.
