Deconstructed USN 5-Panel Hats.
Last year, while digging through a vintage military surplus warehouse in LA, we came across several pairs of old USN foul weather deck pants in excellent condition. Deck pants were standard issue overalls worn during adverse weather conditions. They are made of a tight cotton grosgrain weave called "jungle cloth" designed to repel wind and rain and lined with a lightweight wool to provide warmth and moisture wicking. We thought these pants could find new life as 5-panel hats, so we enlisted the help of our good friends at Knickerbocker Manufacturing Co. in NYC to deconstruct and resew them. Because each pant had characteristics unique to its wearer (wear points, details, even blood stains), each hat that we produced is completely unique. Some of them are quite straightforward and others utilize straps, buttons and pockets that were already on the pants to create special detailing. From these 5 USN deck pants, we were able to create 50 one-of-a-kind jungle cloth caps. These hats will be made available here (3sixteen.com) on Monday, March 17th, 2014 at noon EST and will retail for $60.
