Panama Cloth.
Almost a year ago, we produced a small run of Type 3s jackets and a Crosscut Shirts out of a really special selvedge indigo fabric called Panama Cloth sourced from a mill in Italy. After releasing these pieces at our LA Flagship's 1 year anniversary, we knew were onto something special - so the following spring, we proceeded to work with the mill to run the fabric again for a Fall/Winter delivery. This Friday, we'll be re-releasing the Panama Cloth Type 3s jacket along with a brand new Stadium Jacket using the same fabric.
Panama Cloth features a basketweave construction, which means that the warp and weft threads criss-cross to form a checkerboard pattern. Both of the warp and weft yarns are indigo dyed to give the fabric a deep blue color not unlike our shadow selvedge denim. What we love most about our Panama Cloth fabric is its rough and uneven texture. While the fabric is by no means uncomfortable against the skin (and with wear and washes, it actually softens up significantly - faster than denim too, in our opinion), what makes it unique is its fading potential. The inconsistent texture of the fabric causes it to wear down beautifully, whereby you'll see countless shades of blue up close after just a few months of wear. We've had the pleasure of seeing some worn-in examples over the past year and have no doubt that this is a fabric that will continue to transform in a special way over time.
Panama Cloth Type 3s Jackets and Stadium Jackets release on Friday, December 7th via retailers worldwide. Our stock will post on 3sixteen.com at noon EST, and will be available at our LA flagship later on that day.
