Chainstitch Hemming
Not all chainstitch hems are created equal.
We now offer chainstitch hems with a vintage Union Special 43200G for any 3sixteen jeans purchased via our website. Our machine is a 3rd generation model with the correct 3⁄8” folding attachment, which will ensure hems that will produce the beautiful roping effect that this machine is known for.
The 43200G has been out of production since the late 80’s. It has a defect that causes the fabric coming into the folder to enter at a different rate than the bottom side of the hem being pulled forward by the feeder dogs. This deficit results in a twisting in the fabric that becomes more apparent with wear and washes - something resembling a rope. Most chainstitch hems that you see today are done on modern machines that have corrected this defect, which means that they will not torque the same way.
